Exploring Childhood and Emotions: The Artistry of Guerda Faustin

In the world of contemporary art, there are artists who captivate us not only with their creative prowess but also with the depth of emotions they infuse into their works. One such artist is Guerda Faustin, whose latest exhibition is an exploration of the psycho-emotional milestones of early life. We had the privilege of sitting down with Guerda to gain insight into her inspiration and the stories behind her remarkable artwork.

A Journey into Childhood Emotions

Guerda Faustin’s current collection is a deep dive into the formative years of life. She seeks to portray the intricate web of emotions, relationships, and the ever-present environmental elements that shape a child’s personality. As Guerda herself explains, “The impact of those elements and the children’s sensible reaction to those elements is what captures my attention. Those feelings to me are like a floue drawing on a blank canvas. As an artist, I feel compelled to highlight the lines that bring them to the surface.”

In her work, she uncovers the unspoken yet tangible expressions of change in children, allowing the viewer to connect with the nuanced, often overlooked, emotions of youth. Guerda’s canvases serve as an eloquent platform for these emotions to be laid bare for all to see.

As an artist, I feel compelled to highlight the lines that bring them to the surface.

Voicing the Unheard

One of Guerda Faustin’s most powerful pieces in this collection is titled “Les Enfants Du Batey/The Children of The Batey.” This poignant work sheds light on the forgotten children living in the Batey in the Dominican Republic. It is a call to action, a plea for someone to stand by them and speak for them. As Guerda puts it, “In that painting I chose to be ‘the voice crying in the desert’: they do exist. To any viewer or buyer, I would say: ‘As you are displaying that painting in your private home or office space, please take pride that you are a change-maker telling the story of the unheard.'”

Art is Heart

When asked if she has a favorite piece in her collection, Guerda humbly replies, “I value every line that I draw and every drop of paint on a blank canvas. My art is my heart.” This deep emotional connection with her work is evident in the way she pours her soul into every piece, making it a reflection of her very being.

Balancing Technique and Emotion

Art is a delicate balance between technique and emotion, and Guerda Faustin navigates this equilibrium masterfully. She started as a self-taught artist, following her instincts and imagination without a set subject matter. Her early works were experiments with different media, guided by the lines, colors, and shapes that resonated with her inner self.

With time and maturity, Guerda realized that to convey her message effectively, she needed to learn the technical aspects of art. Her understanding of anatomy, symmetry, color composition, depth, perspective, and more has provided a solid foundation for her to transform blank canvases into emotionally charged masterpieces.

Guerda Faustin’s art transcends the visual realm; it delves deep into the human psyche, touching the hearts and souls of those fortunate enough to witness it. Her latest exhibition is not just a collection of paintings; it’s a journey through the emotional landscape of childhood. Through her art, Guerda invites us to explore the nuanced emotions of the young, to be the voice for the unheard, and to appreciate the profound connection between technique and emotion in the world of art.
